Abstract

The cutaneous horn is a chronic hyperkeratotic lesion that can associate as both benign and malignant lesions. The differential diagnosis is the pyogenic granuloma, characterized by proliferative non-neoplastic reactive processes, with origin in the connective tissue of the skin or mucous. The objective of this work is relate the case of the pyogenic granuloma with clinical and histopathologic characteristics to similar to cutaneous horn. The 54-year-old female patient was referred to the service of stomatology for evaluation of lesions. The extraoral examination verified nodular lesion, exophytic, pediculate, measuring 2.0 × 2.0 × 10 mm, in lower lip. The diagnostic hypothesis was cutaneous horn. Excisional biopsy was performed, and the histopathologic result was pyogenic granuloma. Although the clinical characteristics are not determined for diagnosis for this lesion, it is important to note the differences that may occur in these aspects because a wrong interpretation can lead to a hasty diagnosis as well as incorrect therapeutic behavior.
