Abstract

A report commissioned by the government has recommended reducing intake into medical school by 2% in England, starting with the 2013 intake, to improve matching of medical workforce supply and demand from 2025. Effective planning of medical student numbers would make sure that money was not wasted through training more doctors than the NHS needed, some of whom could be forced to work abroad, said the health minister Dan Poulter.
