Abstract

We investigate the instability of curvature radiation of a relativistic beam of charged particles in a very strong curved magnetic field, which is of interest as a pulsar radiation mechanism. The conditions for growth are a fairly steep boundary at the outer edge of the beam and high frequencies meeting a non-WKB requirement. High growth rates are found.
