Abstract

The author surveys some previous literature on the role of the language laboratory and finds it unnecessarily restrictive. A combination of LL and overhead projector can enable the laboratory to function in all phases of language learning. Detailed recommendations are given for the introduction of new text with the help of this media combination, based on practical experience within the framework of a project financed by the German Ministry of Education, and certain advantages are claimed, including better learning, improved motivation even for faster learners, greater variety and individualisation, stimulus to group work.
