Abstract

Abstract Sexual assault is common in our society and is associated with significant psychological morbidity. Research evaluating the efficacy of psychological interventions to assist survivors of adult sexual violence through recovery has only become established in recent years. Models of psychological response and recovery and therapeutic interventions directed at survivors are reviewed in this paper. Results of treatment studies do not support the use of one therapeutic approach over another at present and difficulties in this area of research are discussed.
