Abstract
Female genital cosmetic surgery is one of the sought after branches today. It is the most controversial topic too in media and public. Cosmetic surgeries are more common in western countries while in some religions like “Muslims” it's still not accepted. It includes number of procedures such as Hymenoplasty, Labia reduction, Fat injection etc. Despite of the side effects (long/short term) of these procedures women are getting more attracted towards them because of their change in life style and cultural trends. Doctors say that the inquiries about these procedures have nearly doubled in the last three years. “Women in the age group 30–40s from the upper and middle classes are the major clientele for this surgery. At least 2–3 women approach the clinic for such procedures per month,” says Dr Kashyap. This is not necessarily an issue of either permitting or banning all forms of genital cutting, but about identifying a consistent and coherent stance in which key social values – including protection of children, bodily integrity, bodily autonomy, and equality before the law – are upheld.
