Abstract

Information technology (IT) has become a popular stage in the working environment due to its overallimportance in keeping companies competitive and successful. This is due to information technology beingmoved from a strictly supporting role in the back office to a position of major strategic importance. Thetechnology field has attracted many qualified candidates including women, who have found themselvesamong many male contenders. Even though these women were at first attracted to the IT field because ofsuch factors as the number of positions available and high salaries, they were later deterred because of thepredominant male culture. This research will study further into the issue of women in the IT working worldtoday and determine if factors such as the glass ceiling, equal pay, family obligations, and education haverecently changed.
