Abstract

Several saffron production areas of Spain have been prospected to collect saffron corms, including not only the most important areas protected by specific quality denominations, but other marginal or neglected areas where we suspected to find the most primitive and interesting materials. In addition, the six wild species of Crocus cited in Spain were prospected in natural ecosystems. All the genetic materials were integrated in the Spanish collection of saffron and wild relatives, preserved in the Bank of Plant Germplasm of Cuenca.
