Abstract

Theresa M. Melchionne is Deputy Commissioner in Charge of Community Relations, Police Department, City of New York. She was appointed to this position in October, 1963 having served since 1942 as a policewoman with the New York City Police Department. In 1946 she was appointed detective and in 1952 was appointed Director of the Bureau of Policewomen. Commissioner Melchionne holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the City University of New York and has received several citations from the New York City Police Department. This paper was presented at the 73rd Annual Conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police which was held in Philadelphia in October, 1966.-EDIToR.
