Abstract
This paper describes the sensorless operation of the rotor position of a brushless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive. In order to estimate the rotor position of the brushless PMSM drive, the current slope detection technique is used. The concept involves the use of instantaneous three-phase stator currents and voltages to provide the instantaneous rotor position and speed of the PMSM drive. In-depth analysis and mathematical models include the analysis of the current slope detection technology, under the steady state and dynamic speed response of the permanent magnet synchronous motor drive’s rotor position sensorless operation. Initially use voltage frequency (V/F) control technology to start the brushless PMSM drives. When the PMSM drives reaches a few percent of the synchronous speed, the V/F control method will switch to the rotor position sensorless control algorithm. The sensorless control technique is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink environmental tools and further validated over a small-scale experimental set-up.
