Abstract
In the context of achieving the dual carbon goal, pumped storage technology has been given high hopes. Small and medium-sized pumped storage power stations have flexible site selection, do not involve ecological red lines, various forms of units, and short construction cycles. Promoting the construction of flexible and decentralized small and medium-sized pumped storage power stations is conducive to implementing the dual‑carbon goal and improving regional new energy consumption capacity. Under the trend of large capacity of global pumped storage power stations, small and medium-sized pumped storage power stations in various countries have not received much attention. With the continuous maturity of technology, different pumped storage technologies have been developed. Among them, variable speed pumped storage units based on full power converters have the advantages of high operating efficiency, wide adjustment range and excellent control performance, and are suitable for small pumped storage power stations. China's installed capacity of pumped storage ranks first in the world, and there are many small power grids in many places, which puts forward higher requirements for the development of small and medium-sized pumped storage. The installed capacity of pumped storage in Zhejiang ranks first in the country, and it vigorously develops and builds small and medium-sized pumped storage power stations.It is an important measure to solve the current imbalance of energy development in Zhejiang, but its development has some problems such as insufficient pre-planning, imperfect supporting policies and insufficient market development. Therefore, this paper analyzes the construction of small and medium-sized pumped storage power stations in Zhejiang from the aspects of construction background, technology optimization, energy storage optimization, environmental impact and social assessment. In the future, driven by the energy transformation and clean energy development, small and medium-sized pumped storage power stations will be further developed and applied in Zhejiang.
