Abstract

Objective To explore the current situation and influencing factors of weight loss among hospitalized full-term neonates so as to provide a basis for weight monitoring among neonates. Methods From October to December 2016, we selected 200 full term neonates of rooming-in at a ClassⅢ gynaecology and obstetrics hospital in Shanghai. The weight loss of neonates was investigated with the self-designed questionnaire for influencing factors of weight loss among hospitalized full-term neonates. We also analyzed the differences between the weight loss of neonates ≥ 7% and < 7% its influencing factors. Results Among 200 hospitalized neonates, the weight loss was (251±102) g with 3.2% to 7.6% for the decline. Single factor analysis showed that there were statistical differences in the weight loss of neonates ≥7% and < 7% among full-term neonates with different methods of delivery and feeding, whether they used labor analgesia, whether they were with intravenous fluids, lactation times, sexes of neonates and excretion times (P<0.05) . Logistic regression analysis showed that the main influencing factors of weight loss in hospitalized neonates included methods of delivery and feeding, fluid infusion during childbirth as well as excretion times of neonates. Conclusions The influencing factors of weight loss in hospitalized neonates include methods of delivery and feeding, fluid infusion during childbirth as well as excretion times of neonates. Hospitals can make intervention based on influencing factors and monitor the weight changes so as to prevent excessive pathological weight loss and to promote healthy growth of neonates.
