Abstract

This paper explores the current state of performance appraisal practices at the State government level, comparing present findings with earlier studies done in this important field. An overview of the importance of performance appraisal is provided particularly as this function “links” other human resource decisions made by management. Trends identified by previous studies are reviewed and evaluation of current practice is compared for continuation of important elements as well as new directions which seem to be emerging. Finally, conclusions and recommendations are drawn regarding this work.
