Abstract

Pain is a prominent feature of many medical conditions, including the rheumatic diseases. Pain due to trauma, inflammation or disease (nociceptive pain) usually responds to analgesic and co-analgesic medications; pain related to nerve injury (neuropathic pain) responds poorly to conventional analgesics, but may respond to adjuvant therapy such as anticonvulsant and antidepressant drugs.
