Abstract

This article highlights some hot topics and controversies in total hip arthroplasty. It discusses the use of pharmacologic agents, mechanical compression devices, and aspirin for thromboembolic prophylaxis. It also reviews the use of long versus short stems, as well as ceramic-on-ceramic and ceramic-on-highly cross-linked polyethylene bearing surfaces.
