Abstract
ABSTRACTVarious researchers have conducted several major pollen studies of the Hohokam in the 1980s. These include the Ak Chin, Brady Wash, La Ciudad, Las Colinas, Marana, New River, Price Road, Salt-Gila Aqueduct, and Santa Rosa Canal studies. These projects provide new insights into the diversity of Hohokam subsistence strategies and variety of utilized plants, such as Hoffmanseggia (hog potato), a legume, and Dithyrea-type (spectacle pod-type), a mustard. Methodological advances include the common use of scanning and systematic recording of pollen aggregates. A periodic synthesis of new data with prior pollen studies in the context of archaeological reports is necessary to promote revisions in the Hohokam concept.
