Abstract

In current Soviet literary scholarship, study of the interaction between two types of artistic thinking — the romantic and the realistic — is associated with theoretical interpretation of the artistic-intellectual arsenal of socialist realism. Studies on problems of the genesis of socialist art helped to clarify concepts about the transformation of the romantic principle and the nature of romanticism, which retained into the twentieth century the capacity to evolve and the ability to enter into complex interaction with the realist artistic system.
