Abstract

The British Journal of Midwifery fifth national conference on current issues in midwifery took place last month at Birmingham Children's hospital. Organized by our joint Editor-in-Chiefs, Professor Tina lavender and Yana Richens and aimed at clinical midwives, student midwives, professors of midwifery, consultant midwives and supervisors, to name just a few, it proved to be a very successful two days. The delegates were treated to an enlightening programme covering good practices around normal birth, pregnancy and public health, and the factors that create a good environment for midwives, students and women. It aimed to alert delegates to the current national midwifery issues and give them an appreciation of the research underpinning midwifery practice.
