Abstract

A novel current feedback programming principle and circuit architecture are presented, compatible with LED displays utilizing the 2T1C pixel structure. The new pixel programming approach is compatible with all TFT backplane technologies and can compensate for non-uniformities in both threshold voltage and carrier mobility of the OLED pixel drive TFT, due to a feedback loop that modulates the gate of the driving transistor according to the OLED current. The circuit can be internal or external to the integrated display data driver. Based on simulations and data gathered through a fabricated prototype driver, a pixel drive current of 20 nA can be programmed within an addressing time ranging from 10 $\mu{\rm s}$ to 50 $\mu{\rm s}$ .
