Abstract

This presentation will present the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) current thinking on how to label whole grain foods and what foods are considered whole grain. The presentation will also discuss the agency’s draft guidance and provide examples to assist manufacturers in labeling their products about the presence of whole grain ingredients. The FDA published a draft guidance for industry and FDA staff entitled “Whole Grain Label Statements” on February 17, 2006, which: • Represents the FDA’s current thinking • Doesn’t operate to bind the FDA or the public • Can use alternative approaches if satisfy applicable statutes and regulations
