Abstract

The intense white light emission of sodium silica gels under AC excitation was investigated. Its spectrum consisted of two sharp narrow sodium yellow lines centered at 588 nm and 590 nm and broadband emission with a maximum at around 600 nm. Temperature of the light-emitting sample has been measured to be relatively low about 150 °C. It was observed that white light electroluminescence intensity increased exponentially with the applied current. The origin of current stimulated white lighting of sodium silica gel is discussed in terms of avalanche ionization.
