Abstract

Assuming that current divergences transform under the representation (3,3 ∗) + (3 ∗,3) of SU 3 × SU 3, we first estimate the relative strengths of SU 3 and chiral symmetry breaking terms in the hadron energy density assuming π-meson PCAC alone. Secondly we find that no effects which depend on scalar mesons or on the inequality of ƒ K and ƒ π can be deduced if π−, K- and η-meson PCAC are assumed. However, using only π-meson PCAC and the inequality of ƒ K and ƒ π we find that a mass ⩾ 1000 MeV is favoured for the scalar (Kπ) resonance κ.
