Abstract

We have been developing fuel cell evaluation systems and supplying them to many fuel cell researchers. Two issues for developing SOFC systems are “high efficiency” and “cost reduction” at the practical stage in recent years. It is important to know from the current distribution at each cell area in units of single cell to improve efficiency, however there has been no holder that can measure the current distribution of practical planar single cell. So, we developed a current distribution holder for planar single cell. By using this holder, the current distribution of the cell can be measured at multiple points in the cell electrode. And, we succeeded in measuring the current distribution at five points in the 10 cm×10 cm cell. In this test, we learned that the overall power generation characteristics are improved by eliminating the area where the current value is poor, and the gas diffusion affect the result of the current distribution. It is expected to find the optimal operating conditions such as flow path design and current value setting by using this method.
