Abstract

A theoretical investigation of the current-carrying capacity of superconducting cable with insulated strands as a function of the inductive coupling nature between the strands is presented. The stability of the superconducting state was analyzed by a nonisothermal model. It is shown that, if the matrix of the cable strand inductance has degradation, the degradation of the stable current flowing in the cable can be considerable over the whole range of the current charging. The degradation becomes stronger with increasing both the number of strands in the cable and the imbalance of their mutual inductance.
