Abstract

(Abstracted from Prenat Diagn 2016;36:1167–1171) Clinical prenatal care includes prenatal testing for fetal birth defects, traditionally including screening with maternal serum biochemical marker(s) to detect open neural tube defects, Down syndrome, or trisomy 18. Recent advances have led to the development of noninvasive prenatal testing using cell-free DNA (cfDNA) derived from the placenta and circulating in maternal blood.
