Abstract

The application of switching converters in the area of high-voltage high-current power supplies, in general, has so far been limited. The advances in power electronics and power semiconductor technology has made it possible to overcome this limitation. In certain areas like magnet power supplies, where switching converters are finding applications, effective current and/or voltage control techniques are needed to meet the stringent output current ripple specifications and fast dynamic response criteria. This paper proposes a modified dead-beat current control technique for multilevel converters in general. The proposed control technique in conjunction with the hybrid multilevel switching converter (HMSC) is shown to have good reference tracking capabilities. The current programmability feature of the converter is illustrated with computer simulations.
