Abstract
Assessment is a key feature of the educational system in England. The introduction of the National Curriculum in 1988 brought with it the requirement for formal assessment at the ages of 7, 11, 14 and 16. Since then a range of different modes of assessment have been developed and assessment used for a variety of purposes.
