Abstract

This book is a collection of reviews on various topics discussed at the conference, Current Advances in Respiratory Care, held in Las Vegas in 1983 and jointly sponsored by the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Association for Respiratory Therapy, and the American Physical Therapy Association. Despite its relatively modest size, the book covers a wide spectrum of subjects and provides a concise but comprehensive review of management of acute and chronic pulmonary disease. The text describes recent advances in oxygen therapy, including a discussion of longterm oxygen treatment of chronic respiratory disease and a comparison of treatments using 24-hour nocturnal oxygen, or no oxygen (chapter 1). Oxygen therapy in critically ill patients is also considered, although in less detail (chapters 8, 9, and 12).
