Abstract

This paper investigated the curing process and mechanical properties of protein based polymers made from soybeans. Soybean protein isolate mixed with additives was used to fabricate test specimens. First, the flow-curing properties of the soy-protein polymer were examined. Then, a curing procedure was designed based upon test results. Finally, the mechanical properties of the cured protein polymer were investigated. The purpose of this research is to design a manufacturing process that incorporates a protein polymer with high strength fibers, producing fiber-reinforced protein polymer composites.
