Abstract

Curdlan based cryogels were prepared and tested for their structural and thermal properties by using field emission scanning electron microscopy and thermogravimetric analysis, respectively. Volume shrinkage, mechanical performance, swelling, solubility and density were accessed as a function of composition, which included cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and polyethylene oxide (PEO). PEO/CURD and PEO/CURD/CNF cryogels exhibited porous and layered structures. The addition of CNF significantly improved the in-vitro release of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (diclofenac sodium), which is a promising alternative to current non-biodegradable systems.
