Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effects of different internal fixation methods on forearm fractures. Methods Seventy-six patients with forearm fracture were randomly divided into elastic intramedullary nail group and plate group, with 38 cases in each group. Two groups were treated by open reduction and internal fixation operation, while the elastic intramedullary nail group underwent elastic intramedullary nail fixation, the plate group underwenet steel plate internal fixation after treatment. After treatment, the swelling degree of the affected limb, the average pain score of visual analogue scale(VAS), and the forearm rotation function of affected side were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the swelling degree of the affected limb, the average pain score of VAS and the forearm rotation function of affected side in elastic intramedullary nail group were better than those in plate group, the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). Conclusions Open reduction with elastic intramedullary nail fixation has significant effect on patients with forearm fracture, and can effectively promote the recovery of forearm rotation function of affected side.
