Abstract

Abstract A description is provided for Cumminsiella mirabilissima . Information is included on the disease caused by the organism, its transmission, geographical distribution, and hosts. HOSTS: On Mahonia aqulfolium, M. dicryota, M. japonica var. beali, M. nervosa, M. pumila and M. repens . DISEASE: Rust of mahonia. Forming conspicuous reddish spots on older leaves. GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Europe, North and Central America. TRANSMISSION: Spread of the disease is thought to be mainly by infected nursery stock (15: 230). Heavy snow storms have also been implicated in the dissemination of uredospores which have been found capable of withstanding very low temperatures. Uredospores exposed to -10°C to -20°C for a month retained their viability. The min. temp. for the development of the rust is only a few degrees above 0°C, with opt. 8-12°C and max. 20°C (10: 109).
