Abstract

Atopic dermatitis (AD), characterized by skin barrier dysfunction and inflammation, is associated with food allergy and asthma development. Underlying mechanisms for disease co-expression remain poorly understood. The skin microbiome’s role in modulating skin disorders, including AD, and systemic immunity is still under investigation. We hypothesize that metabolic output of skin-associated bacteria in AD contributes to barrier dysfunction and the atopic march.
