Abstract

In dealing with the problem drinking of individuals at the workplace, industrial social workers must consider the organizational and group variables that contribute to a “culture of drinking,” which fosters and sanctions the use of alcohol. Problem drinkers, however, are often in jeopardy of losing their jobs. This “job jeopardy” can be a constructive method to help the employee confront the drinking problem. This article suggests interventions that replace the “culture of drinking” with a “culture of sobriety.”
