Abstract

ABSTRACTIsolated cells of uninvolved and involved psoriatic and normal epidermis have been cultured with 3T3 feeder layers. The efficiency of colony formation in the involved psoriatic epidermal cells was 50% as high as that in the uninvolved. No differences were observed between the uninvolved and involved psoriatic epidermal cell growth assessed by measuring the size of the growing colonies. Histologically, the structure of psoriatic colonies as revealed by electron microscopy did not differ from that of healthy control skin, having several layers of stratified epidermal cells with incomplete keratinization. The cyclic AMP level stimulated by the addition of isoproterenol to the involved psoriatic cell culture was about 50% as high as that in the uninvolved.
