Abstract

This chapter reviews the influence of culture within buyer-supplier relationships in supply chains. The chapter begins by outlining the genealogy of buyer-supplier relationships; followed by outlining the traditional role and influence of organisational culture within organisations on performance outcomes. This knowledge provides an important foundation for the development of supply chain cultural fit, which refers to the shared values, beliefs and behaviour patterns which permeate within and between each supply chain partner organisation resulting in mutually desired performance outcomes between supply chain partners. An extensive review of the literature demonstrates the importance of supply chain cultural fit between supply chain partners as an enabler to enhanced supply chain performance outcomes. A "Steps to Success" framework is introduced to guide researchers and practitioners in developing and building a high-performance supply chain culture. Future research directions in this domain are also presented.
