Abstract

When working with Mexican families and individuals in therapy, we consider it important to take into account the social and cultural context, which has underlined the prevalence of myths that influence social relationships. We have selected two myths and analyzed their presence in family conflict as well as in the therapeutic relationship, showing their usefulness in therapy and training. This paper can show an implicit world view among Mexicans that influence social relationships and might extend our understanding of power relationships among different social classes or ethnic groups, especially from Latin extraction.
