Abstract

Reality television programs, which are vital components of television programming, have contributed to the expansion of the organization’s brand, its economy, and the country as a whole. The unpleasant scenarios depicted in certain reality television programs, particularly BBNAIJA 5 (Lockdown), frequently prompt the general public to put on their thinking caps and pose some challenging questions regarding the responsibilities of such reality television programs in promoting, defending, and advancing our cultural standards. The devalued cultural norms depicted in the just concluded BBNAIJA 5 (Lockdown) provided the appearance that our cultures are nothing more than weak hybridity outputs imbued with Western culture, styles, and ideologies, provoking significant scholarly debates, discussions, and enquiries. Through the production of BBNAIJA content, this study aims to address cultural decline by examining the relationship between culture and entertainment. Another objective of this study is to comprehend the Westernized content of BBNAIJA and its consequences on young people. This study’s objectives include determining why Nigerian culture is not effectively reflected in their home tasks. The study’s theoretical foundation is cultural identity theory, and its methodology is based on interviewing and observational techniques. According to studies, determining whether BBNAIJA effectively represents Nigerian cultural norms and values offers a considerable conflict of interest. BBNAIJA has reached a point where Nigerian culture should not be completely neglected; rather, culture and entertainment should be fostered.
