Abstract

Frame upon the Cultural Discourse Studies,the present paper focuses on the newsdiscourse about Chai Jing’s documentary“Under the Dome” in American mainstreammedia, investigating the discourse topic,manner and rhetoric as well as the historical,environmental development and culturalreasons between these two countries. It isfound that (1) the Chinese environmentaldiscourse in American mainstream mediasconcerns the topics likes the popularization ofenvironmental conception, the environmentalineffectiveness of government administration,and the Chinese public’s right to environmentalproblems; (2) the discourse manners like choiceof lexicon, speech quotation, and rhetoricalfeature applied in American mainstream mediahas presented the communicative values andconceptions of western country; (3) the Chineseenvironmental discourse in American media isrelated with the historical and culturaldifference between the two countries.
