Abstract
Since culture brings forth language, translation and culture are closely associated. In Venuti's view, the significance of translation is retained by its relationship to the social and cultural conditions under which the translation is conveyed and analyzed. An expression that seems simple to decipher may really contain social and cultural nuances that, if not taken into consideration, can result in a different meaning than what aimed for. Due to cultural and historical proximity, translations from Persian to Urdu or Urdu to Persian could transfer the meaning better. Historical cultural and artistic interdependencies are more important than language to convey meaning. The Urdu language benefited from Persian language and absorbed many Persian words. Many works of Persian classics have been translated to Urdu from Persian and Sa’di Shirazi’s works are among them. This paper will attempt to study Persian translation into Urdu by discussing subjects such as historical relations and geographical proximity. The books under this focus are Gulistan of Sa’di and its translation into English by Francis Gladwin and into Urdu by Mir Shir Ali Afsus.
