Abstract
The case study examines the Faith and the City Program at Columbia Theological Seminary as it attempts to respond to the Association of Theological Schools' requirement to prepare students for public leadership. The program uses a multi-faceted approach to this task that includes student-led activities and an infusion of the curriculum through elective courses and guest lectures on the role of the pastor as a public leader. Special emphasis is placed on a joint seminar on Power, Faith, and Civic Leadership conducted for students and faculty from Columbia, the Interdenominational Theological Center, and Georgia State University. Elements of the case may be useful to other institutions seeking to cultivate public leadership among theological students.
