Abstract

Abstract Thirteen individuals with tongue thrust swallowing pattern were taught the self-control procedure of cueing and positive practice and instructed to apply it to resting or swallowing tongue position or to both. Results indicate that the frecuency of correct tongue position during both resting and swallowing conditions increased when the self-control procedure was applied to that condition. Continued improvement was obtained at follow-up assessments one and three months after treatment was concluded. Good treatment generality was demonstrated by the fact that all subjects reported correct behavior at least 70% of the time. The broader applicability of cueing and positive practice as a self-control technique is discussed.
