Abstract
This note describes a new addition to the series of fluid cushion loading cells, which has been developed for testing 1.75-in (3.8-cm) cubical clay specimens. The smaller size of this cell, in comparison with that of its predecessors, was necessary to reduce consolidation time and to accommodate undisturbed samples. This cell permits up to 10% strains on the test specimen without excessive distortion, while allowing pore pressures to be monitored continuously.
