Abstract
The economic crisis in the Soviet Union and the collapse of Communist-controlled regimes in Eastern Europe have left Cuba in a dangerously exposed position. The hostility of the United States—and to a lesser extent of other advanced capitalist countries—toward revolutionary Cuba forced that country to become heavily dependent for trade and aid on the Soviet Union and its Eastern European allies.
