Abstract

Duchamp's Fountain is maybe the most representative work in contemporary art. So it seems paradoxical that it hadn't ever been exposed. Since its very beginning it faces reject and disappearance. Reject by the traditional artistic judgment; disappearance as a new aesthetic strategy, looking for survival and presence. Reject, as well as disappearance of the Fountain , are analyzed in this article as outstanding characteristics of the work in contemporary art.
