Abstract

The article exposes a set of relations between dance and gender. The body is the instrument of dance, so that the gender perspective is entirely appropriate for the analysis of dance. Gender studies and the fight for women / men equality have had a very positive influence in the historiography and in the practice of dance. Dance plays a role in the transmission of cultural, social and political values and expresses the male / female dichotomy. The role of women in dance has not translated into power, which is in the hands of men. In academia there is great interest in the enormous potential of gender and dance research, although the studies and publications are still insufficient and poorly disclosed.
