Abstract

In January 2011, we launched CUAJ “early releases.” If you are reading this in print and have not seen our early releases, please take advantage of this and sign up at www.cuaj.ca or send an email to our Editorial Director at gro.auc@onitroics.enihpesoJ. (Early release refers to pre-publication posting online, not pre-mature ejaculation). We have a digital object identifier (DOI) number, which includes our unique CUAJ prefix (provided by CrossRef [www.crossref.org]) and a unique number for each article (online and print). The benefits of having DOIs for CUAJ articles include: Publication of online articles ahead of print, as well as print publication in due time. Articles that are published first online and later in print will be linked via PubMed. Publishing online ahead of print will allow us publish articles that have been in the queue, and avoid delays. This is an important step for CUAJ and will further increase our visibility and credibility among our readers, authors, and advertisers. DOIs are assigned to articles forever and easy to link to. Articles can be located with a DOI number alone. For example, an article I recently published in BJU International is linked with a DOI number (doi: 10.1111/j.1464-410X.2010.09820.x). http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21070575. You can copy and paste the DOI number in a web browser and be linked to the article immediately. We have a new Associate Editor, Dr. Rob Siemens from Queen’s University. Dr. Siemens is an outstanding young clinician scientist with broad interests, high energy, and a great track record. We are delighted that he has agreed to take on this important responsibility. In the next few months, we will revamp our website and introduce Open Journal Systems – a journal management and publishing system that has been developed by the Public Knowledge Project. OJS will allow us to automate many of our editorial tasks and ensure online submission and reviews. We hope you are able to take advantage of these tools. We look forward to an intellectually stimulating 2011!
