Abstract

A new one-dimensional coordination polymer of copper(I) iodide [Cu((μ N,N′-Me2N–ba)2bn)I]n, with the bidentate Schiff-base ligand N,N’-bis(4-dimethylaminobenzylidene)butane-1,4-diamine, (Me2N–ba)2bn, containing a flexible spacer (=N–C–C–C–C–N=) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, 13C and 1H NMR, FT-IR, and thermal analysis. Its molecular structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The copper(I) ion is coordinated in a distorted trigonal planar geometry by two N atoms of the symmetry related Schiff-base ligands and one I atom. The Schiff-base ligand adopts an E,E conformation and acts as a bis-monodentate bridging ligand (μ N,N′), thus forming the 1D-chain copper(I) iodide coordination polymer.
