Abstract

We reported a facile and efficient catalytic system, involving Cu powder and n-butylamine, for oxidative coupling of terminal alkynes under ambient conditions. Various terminal alkynes can be converted into corresponding symmetrical and unsymmetrical 1,4-disubstituted 1,3-diynes bearing a broad range of functional groups. This protocol can be accomplished in a one-pot process using air as environmentally friendly oxidant at room temperature and amenable to gram-scale synthesis.
