Abstract

We describe the synthesis of Cu doped amine functionalized graphene oxide (Cu@AGO) and its effective application as recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for selective partial oxidation of benzyl alcohols to corresponding benzaldehydes under mild conditions with acetonitrile as solvent. The Cu@AGO was fully characterized by XRD, FT-IR, Raman spectra, XPS, SEM and TEM analysis. FT-IR validated the successful grafting of organic amine with graphene oxide, while TEM confirmed the uniform distribution of metal particles on amine functionalized graphene oxide. The catalyst gave excellent conversion (92%) and selectivity (99%) towards benzaldehyde, with good reusability up to 4cycles.
